With Winter upon us in Australia you have probably already noticed your skin getting dry. The colder months will also effect your nails and cuticles also.
So we have put together a list of things you can do to help keep your nails, cuticles and hands in tip top condition.

Just like you do with the skin on your face and body you must exfoliate a couple of times per week. This is easy to do if you just include your hands the next time you exfoliate your body in the shower. Try our home made sugar scrub by clicking here.

Moisturiser is a must through Winter. Apply through out the day, but the best time to moisurise your hands is at night before bed as it lets the moisturiser work all night. If you have extremly dry skin as many do through the colder months- try getting some cotton gloves from your pharmacy or at an outlet such as Priceline. Slather on a rich hand cream and then put the gloves on just before bed. You will feel a bit like Minnie Mouse sitting up in bed :) but your hands will feel fantastic the next day! You can also do the same with your feet and a pair of cotton socks if your feet are dry and cracked.

Cutticle Remover
Your cuticles can get very dry through Winter and if they get out of hand can split which is very painful. By using a cuticle remover such as the butter LONDON Melt Away Cuticle Eliminator weekly, you can literally ‘TRAIN’ your cuticles to behave! Gentle cuticle exfoliation will gradually decrease cuticle size and hardness, until they are constantly thin, soft, and easy to deal with.

Cuticle Oil
Again before jumping in bed for the night apply some cuticle oil such as the butter LONDON Handbag Holiday. A Coconut and Pineapple scented cuticle oil that will have you dreaming of your last holiday, as it heals and nourishes your cuticles.

It’s a fact... every girl (me included!) wants to have glowing, naturally luminous skin. Unfortunately, due to things we can’t control like dirt in the air and free radicals, sometimes our skin looks less than stellar. Coming home after a long day and realizing your skin looks dull is just the worst!

That is why my
Lucent Face Powders are so amazing... they can instantly brighten and transform your skin in no time. My Lucent Face Powders are some of the most popular EM products, and minimize shine as they illuminate your skin. Their light reflecting properties will give you a radiant glow in no time! Which shade is your fave?

We have Pearl Beige (a neutral shade perfect for those with Fair to Light skin) andNatural (a perfect shade for those with Light to Medium skin tones), in addition to Wet Sand (a neutral sprinkle of shimmer that can be used on all skin tones) and Dusty Miller (a very pale peachy pink with a hint of sparkle that can be used on all skin tones). One of the most popular is Viki’s Radiant Creation, which was created by an Everyday Minerals customer and is a beige shade with a hint of sparkly pink that is perfect for Light to Medium skin tones. Or, if you’re feeling tickled pink, try Light Pink - just as the name says, it’s a luminous soft pink face color with a subtle shimmer. To test out the colours why not try our Glow Kit

The key to my Lucent Face Powders is where to apply them to provide the maximum amount of WOW! Through my experience, the following “face places” are the best to naturally create glowing skin:
  • Middle of forehead and temples
  • Inner corners of eyes
  • Along the center of nose and on the tip of the nose
  • Chin
  • Along the cheekbones
  • Along the jawline
These places will give your face definition and a natural contour.

Another fab product? My
Luminizing Sunlight Powder.

This product provides less shimmer and more anti-shine qualities... it’s yellow based mineral formula also conceals the appearance of redness and gives added subtleties of sheen. It’s totally translucent and is perfect to set your makeup!

Do you have any luminous tips to share, ladies?

I have used quiet a few different Taning solutions and sprays so was very keen to give the 100% natural TanOrganic Fake Tanning solution a try!
I am heading off for a long weekend to the Gold Coast to do the theme parks so I need a good tan before putting on the bikini on. I have naturally pale skin so I was eager to see how it would go on my skin tone.

As mentioned earlier, I have used a lot of different tanning products and the one thing I have learn't is if you want a great tan, you have to start with a good base (Skin Condition)
Applying self-tanners to hydrated skin is just one key element to long lasting color.  Once you exfoliate, and if you feel that you need to moisturise your skin, use a water-based moisturiser to ensure that the skin is free to absorb all the tanning product.  If you use an oil-based moisturizer before self-tanning,  the oil can sit on the skin, creating a barrier that can cause self-tanners to streak!  One quick way to tell if your moisturizer is water or oil based –> look at the first ingredient listed on the label.  Chances are it’s water (Aqua) or possibly aloe vera, but steer clear if the first ingredient is an oil of any kind.  Salt, sugar, and diatomaceous earth scrubs are an excellent way to exfoliate – just make sure they are not sitting in heavy oils and do not leave a residue on the skin.  An easy way to make sure there is no residue is to wash your body after exfoliating with a body wash!

Just before applying your tan try applying extra moisturiser to the drier areas such as your knees, elbows, hands, feet and ankles. This will prevent the tan from grabbing in these drier areas.

Applying the TanOrganic Tanning Solution:
The TanOrganic comes in a dark glass spray bottle because it is a natural product and as the company says;Plastic packaging can and will cause a chemical reaction. It is well researched that chemicals 'leach-out' through plastic and mix with products. Many manufacturers again rely on synthetic ingredients to 'protect' the product. Glass is inert and known to be the most protective container for naturally active ingredients. The dark colouring of the glass protects the ingredients from harmful UV light.

The OrganicTan tanning Mitt is such a great idea. On the outside of the mitt it has a soft velour type of material and on the inside it is linned with a waterproof material, so that as you apply the tanning solution it does not stain your hands! Most of us have had one of those experiences with orange hands :). And it is also much better than using disposable gloves as I found as I applied the tanning solution that it was very smooth going onto the skin and didnt leave any streak marks as the disposable gloves can give you.

The Organic Tanning solution had very little smell, infact it was quiet pleasant. I kept the tan solution on all day and did not get that horrable tanning smell that you tend to get with other fake tans. After having a shower at the end of the day my skin felt great - very smooth and hydrated and the colour looked very natural.

I also tried the OilArganic - Argan Dry Oil Spray, which was just devine! It has a unique cocktail of 8 Plant Oils with the beautiful light fragrance of roses.
Oil Arganic is a truly unique argan oil for body, hair and face, as this wonderful, versatile oil may be used in aid of smooth velvet skin, silky hair, healthy strong nails and a wonderfully improved texture to stretch marks and scars.

I was very impressed with all of these products and now use the OilArganic everyday after my shower!

Many women worry about what they can and cannot use safely while pregnant and one question is; Is it safe to use fake tans during pregnancy?

I would love to share this article by Sally Sargo from with you that answers that question.

It's safe for you to use most fake tans during pregnancy. The only products you may need to be careful with are tans that are sprayed on, particularly in a booth.

Fake tans have become popular as we are now more aware of the risks associated with sunbathing and sunbeds. You can buy fake tans as sprays, mousses, creams and wipes. Beauty salons also offer spray-on tans for your whole body.

The active ingredient in fake tan is dihydroxyacetone (DHA). DHA is a type of sugar. It's non-toxic and works by interacting with the protein of the skin cells in the top layer of your skin. In this layer, the skins cells are dead.

The chemical reaction within these dead cells results in the production of a brown pigment called melanoidin. Some fake tans also contain an ingredient called erythrulose, which works in the same way as DHA.

DHA and erythrulose won't harm your baby if you use them as a mousse, cream or wipe. When rubbed onto your skin, DHA and erythrulose don’t go beyond the top cell layer. This means they aren’t absorbed into your system. As your skin is constantly renewing itself, the fake tan fades as the skins cells are shed.

However, if you use a fake tan spray or a spray-tanning booth, then you may inhale some of the DHA or erythrulose. We don’t know how it will affect you or your baby if you inhale the chemicals.

To be on the safe side during pregnancy, try to stick with fake tans that you can apply by rubbing, not spraying. If you do want to use a spray, make sure the room is well aired. Also protect your eyes and lips with barrier cream or petroleum jelly.

It’s also worth bearing in mind that fake tans can occasionally cause allergic reactions. You may not have had a reaction to fake tan before, but your skin can become more sensitive in pregnancy because of hormone level changes. Do a small patch test first to see if you are allergic to the ingredients, even if you used the product before you became pregnant.

Always buy fake tan products from a reputable supplier. Never use the following products:
  • Tanning pills, which are sold online. Tanning pills may contain excessive levels of colour additives (carotenoids) that could harm your unborn baby.

  • Tanning injections, often called melanotan, that are sold online and in some tanning salons. For your own safety and your baby's safety, don't have tanning injections.

Get your brows ship-shape with these expert tips...

Brows that wow!

•Always groom your brows in natural light and use a hand mirror for close-up precision and a large mirror so you can step back and check that they are even.

•Pointed tweezers are more precise; however, it's easier to grab stubborn hairs with a slanted pair. Work with whichever you find easiest.

•Its fine to pluck strays above the eyebrow. Just don't go overboard, and don't tweeze too close to your hairline.

•Your brows should be long, thick and slightly arched. Avoid the tadpole look by going a little at a time, and use your natural shape as an outline."

•For a longer-lasting result, get your brows waxed. Whatever you decide, sometimes it's hard to get an accurate shape at home, so if you don't feel confident about doing them yourself, get them done professionally.

Tip: A technician needs 10 days of brow growth to restore your shape, and a months' worth to start from scratch.

For badly behaved eye brows that will not sit the way you want them to, try to gently comb a gel through your brows to hold hair in place or try a kit such as our Brow Defining Kit.

Three steps to perfect brows

1.Shape: Pull the skin tight and pluck hairs beneath the natural arch, in the direction they are growing, but go easy and keep checking both your eyebrows in the bigger mirror as well, as sometimes if you try to make both exactly the same they don't look great together from a distance.

2.Line up: To determine the inner edge, line up a pencil vertically against one nostril. Your brow should begin where it meets your forehead. And measure again to find where the outside of your brow should end.

3.Define: Hold your eyebrow pencil so it's lying sideways against the brow, then sketch the fine lines of your brow to define them. Experiment with which shade looks best for your eyebrows and complexion. Don't go too dark as it will tend to make your brows overtake your face instead of complimenting it.

Brow dos and don'ts
Do – groom your brows daily
Don't – get rid of the long hairs, as these are what give your brows their shape.
Do – pluck brows after a hot shower when your pores are open – it's less painful
Don't – pluck them during your period, when your skin is particularly sensitive
Do – go and see a professional if you're unsure about what shape to go for

And remember to have fun! :)

At SAREMi Health and Beauty we are very proud to stock the TanOrganic - Natural Organic Tanning Skincare range. We just wanted to share with you some background information about this amazing product and of the brilliant lady behind the name, Noelle O'Conner.

A passionate ITEC qualified beauty therapist/Lecturer and postgraduate of many holistic treatments, Noelle O'Connor has also undertaken studies in the Boston MIT Entrepreneurial Masters Program. Noelle has been in the spa and salon industry for nearly two decades. She began her career in a single cubicle beauty room behind a local hair salon and built it to Ireland's First Beauty Chain, Ealu Spa Therapy while setting up a distribution company Skin Logic supplying the leading beauty products in Ireland and the UK.

Noelle decided to finally develop her own line of products, due to the lack of 100% natural ingredient concious sunless tan products on the market. Noelle wanted products that would firstly preserve her skin, while hydrating at the same time. Frustrated by expensive, skin drying, chemical loaded, un-natural tans on the market, she decided to do some research of her own. The more she researched the more she wanted to create a tan that was organic natural and that worked really moisturized the skin rather than dry it up like most tans available. TanOrganic was born. The company has grown rapidly, with ever increasing sales to salons (who are after all the experts in skincare), and fantastic reviews from the media.

Knowing she had a great product Noelle decided to go on to Dragons Den to hopefully secure an investment and the experience and contacts of a Dragon. The Dragons were very interested in Noelle's product and in the end Dragon Gavin Duffy took 45% of the company for €50,000. A year on and TanOrganic is the most successful Dragons Den company so far, notching up €1 Million in sales in the first 3 months of trading and growing from strength to strength ever since. Being the perfectionist she is, Noelle is determined to bring only 100% natural products to market. Her aim is to keep the entire product sentimentally friendly as well as natural and organic

“Beauty therapists, including myself, have been asking for truly natural sunless products using certified organic ingredients assures discriminating users that the natural claims are real. Having a very fair skin I used fake tans for over 20 years and felt there was a gap and need for a tan that was natural, non dehydrating and could double up as an anti-ageing body treatment at the same time. If I am going to apply a product continuously on my skin, why not make it a product that is hydrating and anti-ageing at the same time? With this in mind I set about sourcing ingredients and developing my very own formula. Now my fake tan becomes another part of my antiageing skin care routine as well as giving me a healthy, natural safe tan.” - Noelle O'Connor

Where does the name SOPHYTO® come from?

SOPHYTO® pronounced [SO-FY'-TO] is taken from the word 'phyto' as in the Company's method of specializing in phytotherapy. When they asked their focus group of a word that best described their experience with the products, they voted for using 'SO' . . . SO healthy, SO effective, SO eco-conscious. So, the word 'so' was fused with 'phyto' and there you have

Q: Do these products contain any petrochemicals or parabens?

SOPHYTO® does not contain any petrochemicals or parabens. US NSF/ANSI 305 and UK Soil Association standards simply would not license any product that contained these types of ingredients. For consumer safety all products have to fulfill the 2005 requirements of the European Pharmacopoeia for the adequate preservation of topical substances. In the absence of petrochemicals and parabens,
SOPHYTO® utilizes multifunctional ingredients to control bacteria and fungus, which are approved and licensed by US NSF/ANSI 305 and UK Soil Association for use in cosmetic products that contain certified organic ingredients and offer a 3 year shelf life unopened

Q: What kind of scent do these products have?

Most products possess some natural aromas like apple, pineapple or cucumber for instance.
SOPHYTO® does not purposely add fragrance in the form of essential oils unless there is a specific requirement for their inclusion other than fragrance

Q: Who can use the line?

Our products are suitable for women [and men] of Caucasian, Asian, Latin, Middle-East and African skin types. Its multi-tasking formulas can address a variety of skin issues in both young and mature skin because each formula contains potent antioxidant ingredients along with literally hundreds of complex vitamins, minerals and plant chemicals

Q: Do you offer specific
anti-aging products?

All the formulas contain anti-aging ingredients, not just a few. Our method of working with complete, whole nutrients from organic foods and botanicals have proved to offer beneficial results in efficacy for a multitude of issues, including aging. These formulas literally contain hundreds of complex vitamins, minerals and plant chemicals that have been scientifically proven to be more potent than just one element, based upon the fact that nutrients can and do influence each other and therefore should not be separated, or isolated. A product is only as good as the quality of its ingredients, with the high level of bioactivity we incorporate in
SOPHYTO®formulas; we feel we are offering maximum nutrition for delivering essential key nutrients in maintaining the health of the skin. The fact we are also offering an organic delivery system ensures these ingredients are utilized effectively by the body

Q: Are these products hypoallergenic?

Hypoallergenic does not mean non-allergenic but rather it means the most common skin allergens have been removed from the product. We have taken all necessary steps to ensure we have not used ingredients that contain known allergens and deciding not to include a lot of essential oils in the majority of our formulas is because certain essential oils can contain allergens. All of our ingredients are listed on product packaging so one can easily avoid ingredients that may cause them irritation. We always recommend a patch test just under the chin or the inside of one's arm before trying any new product. Instructions on how to carry out a skin patch test is located on our product brochure inside each box

Q: Why do you recommend using your Toner to rinse skin?

We recommend using pH Optimizing Restorative Toner for removing cleansing and exfoliating products in place of water if you are in an area where water quality is not that great - for instance, hard water is high in calcium and will stiffen skin's own oil and transform it to a waxy state. This leaves skin dry which can become inflamed and itchy

Q: Do you target discoloration with this line?

Treating discoloration is a specialized field. Deeply pigmented skin often requires a dermatologist who can assess the health of the skin first then make necessary recommendations. So no, we do not offer products that specifically target pigmentation issues. We focus more on luminosity than discoloration. Our products contain high levels of antioxidants; these have been shown to provide a brightening effect on the skin. Sometimes when skin appears dull and sallow looking it may be due to health issues, or a number of factors. We would suggest if you are looking 'off color' and do not feel completely well, instead of using a product to make your skin look brighter, contact your doctor first. If however you feel perfectly fine then commence with using SOPHYTO® products and give it at least 28-30 days to see results. A lot of people see results within the first couple of days, but everyone is different and therefore may see beneficial results at varying times

Q: Why is there no SPF in your moisturizers?

Our moisturizers contain natural forms of SPFs from the botanicals, but have not been tested to determine the SPF number, so we make no claims on this. We do not purposely add any chemical SPFs or minerals such as titanium dioxide or zinc oxide for several very good reasons. First of all, we are prohibited from using chemical sunscreens and also nanotechnology, so if we were to include titanium dioxide, for example, it would leave a white veil on the surface of the skin due to the larger particle sizes and would interfere with our delivery system. Another factor we looked at is oftentimes what causes breakouts from sunscreens is either the occlusive active ingredients or the thickening agents used to suspend them and create the product's texture, so if you are prone to breakouts it is important to test the product on a section of your skin to judge your reaction.

For all of the reasons above, our formulas instead contain exceptional high levels of naturally derived antioxidants (biological filters) which help neutralize the free radicals generated from the UVA/UVB rays of the sun. These natural filters also improve skin elasticity, strengthen the skin`s immune system and enhance overall skin appearance. It is our opinion that it is more beneficial to apply a separate SPF facial protector over your moisturizer on the days you need it. Also, bear in mind that wearing make-up gives good sun protection too as it provides a physical barrier from the sun's rays, especially if you wear both foundation and face powder. We are formulating a non-mineral SPF 30 which will hopefully be launched Spring 2011. This will be an oil-free product suitable for all skin types. It will be full spectrum protection from both UVB and UVA rays and it will include high percentages of antioxidants.

Q: Why is pH important?

Besides looking for high quality, healthy ingredients, the pH value of any skincare product is important information to know regardless of age, skin type and skin color. Normal human skin pH value is somewhere between 4.5 and 6 which means it is slightly acidic and this is the range we have ensured
SOPHYTO® stays within. Acidity for human skin is good because it kills the bad bacteria and allows the 'friendly flora' on the surface to function. However, as we age, the surface of our skin starts to climb from being acidic to neutral/slightly alkaline. In this range our skin is unable to protect itself and starts to weaken. Likewise, those who suffer from acne need to ensure their products have a pH of 5.5 or less, as bacteria that acne thrives upon is minimally present at this number. Skin that is neutral/alkaline does not function in a healthy state which is why it is imperative to look for the right pH in your products. It can influence whether your skin is going to function in a healthy manner or not, regardless of how great the ingredients are. Make sure a product is not higher than 5.5, and not lower than 4.5, to be on the safe side. If a manufacturer is not displaying their pH on the product, then you should try to check first before buying

When it comes to your special day you don't want anything to go wrong! Do you have a tattoo that you need to cover and hide for your wedding day? We have the solution for you. Sometimes you can hide a tattoo with the style of the dress you will be wearing, but all too often it just isn't possible to hide it in that way.

We are not saying that we think you should cover your tattoo for your wedding. We are just giving you the tools to use if that is what you need to do on the big day. Even Celebrities like Angelina Jolie have regretted a tattoo - we all remember how much effort it took for her to remove her ex husband - Billy Bob's name off her arm. Most of us cannot afford laser removal for an unwanted tattoo, so this is a good option.

You will be in your wedding dress for a long period of time so you will need a waterproof & smudgeproof concealer to use over the tattoo. At Saremi we use Tattoo Camo as it completely covers up the tattoo, and with the unique option of 6 different shades and ability to combine the shades and match the cover perfectly to your skin, that next special occasion can be without the tattoos on show.
We also stock the Tattoo Camo Remover Tonic - a highly concentrated formula to completely remove the makeup. And Magic Shield when sprayed on lightly seals your tattoo cover so that it 95% waterproof!

We always recommend for brides to test out the tattoo coverup a couple of months before the event and have a few trials, using it themselves, so that they are confident on the day. Just as you have a trial with your hairdresser and makeup artist before hand, the same goes with the Tattoo Camo. We have attached a link to an instruction video below on our Saremi Beauty Channel which shows you how the product works.

How to Cover and Conceal a Tattoo with T.

Enjoy your big day!

With Winter starting next month we thought a beauty check list for the colder months was in order! Winter is the most drying season for our skin, lips and hair which can leave us feeling less than glamourous and covering up to hybernate!

But there's no need for that with the right beauty products and tools you can survive these colder months, feeling  and looking fabulous with glowing skin, gorgeous nails and shinny locks.

Here are some beauty tips & tricks to do the trick!
  1. Exfoliating Treatment - You will need to exfoliate the skin on your face and decolletage  once to twice a week through Winter. Try the SOPHYTO Exfoliating Treatment. It is a 92% Organic skincare product. A mildly acidic exfoliating serum made from precious amethyst powder, barbados cherry and organic pineapple enzymes to effectively dissolve dead skin cells leaving a much brighter, more refined looking complexion.
  2. Water - Your skin can get very dehydrated through the colder months from the change in the climate, airconditioning or heating. The best way to hydrate is by making sure you are still drinking 1.5 to 2.0 Litres of water everyday. This can be hard when it is colder, but your skin, hair and nails will thank you for it!
  3. Bronzer - You don't need to have pale pasty skin through Winter. Try using a Mineral Makeup Bronzer for your face. The Everyday Minerals Glow Kit is perfect to give you that sunkissed look and leave you feeling like you have just come back from a holiday at the beach.
  4. Lip Balm - Dry cracked lips is not a great look! Keep your lips hydrated with a lip gloss like butter LONDON's LIPPYLIPPY does not contain parabens, petroleum, phthalates, sulphates, or bismuth.
  5. Body Scrub - Now for your body! There are many body scrubs out there to scrub that dead skin off your body but try our home made Hydrating Body Scrub! It's so easy and is made with ingredients you would have in your pantry. It will remove any dead skin cells from your body and leave your skin silky smooth!
  6. Self Tanner - Yes, keep using a self tanner through Winter, particularly if you have a special event or you are planning on go out for the night. It will make you feel more confident and help you to forget that it's Winter! TanOrganic is a fabulous product and is a 100% natural organic tan formula and is fully certified and contains no synthetic ingredients, parabens, colours or fragrances.
Based with Aloe Vera , the ultra moisturising organic tan formula develops with no unpleasant aroma and is also perfect for mature clients as well as those with sensitive skin.
  7. Body Oil - When you step out of the shower slather on a body oil such as Argan Oil. It is a  unique cocktail of 8 Plant Oils with the beautiful light fragrance of roses. Oil Arganic is a truly unique argan oil for body, hair and face, as this wonderful, versatile oil may be used in aid of smooth velvet skin, silky hair, healthy strong nails and a wonderfully improved texture to stretch marks and scars. Also fabulous for skin conditions such as psoriasis.
  8. Nail Strengthener - The colder months will affect your hands and nails too. Using a nail strengthener such as our butter LONDON 'Horsepower Nail Fertilizer' will help to repair and nourish your nails plates. This nail rejuvenator is one of our ALL TIME favourite products! This product is 3 Free, and uses an herbal ingredient called 'Horsetail' to strengthen and repair nails.
  9. Cuticle Oil - 'Handbag Holiday' Cuticle oil from Butter London bring you this gorgeous Coconut and Pineapple scented cuticle oil. Wonderful for your nails and will have you dreaming of holidays in the sun. Smells devine!
  10. Hair Mask Treatment - Give your locks a treat once a week to keep your hair in great condition all through Winter. Ask you Hairdresser to recommend a take home treatment for your hair. Schwartzkopf BC Repair Rescue Treatment works to intensively repair damaged hair, recharging it with new strength and elasticity.
Now you are all set for Winter - it will be a breeze! :)

Getting a natural makeup look is all about the 'less is more' concept. Natural hairstyles and natural makeup looks are all over the runways and red carpets, but you can get the same look with these few easy makeup tips.

The first step to natural, glowing skin is to start with a good base which means beginning with skin that is in tip top condition. If you have a special event coming up try & give yourself a facial a couple of days before the big day, so that all dead skin is exfoliated and you are then left with smooth clear skin.

Before you start with your foundation apply some moisturiser and eye cream to your face. The most natural makeup you can use on your face is mineral makeup. The great thing about mineral makeup is that they are also very easy to apply. Start by tapping a little of the mineral powder into the lid of the container and using a swirling motion warm up the mineral with the makeup brush. Make sure you use the correct brush that is designed to be used with the mineral makeup as you will not get the correct coverage of the product. Start applying the mineral powder base to your face starting from the outside edges of your face in circular motions and gradually move to the middle of your face until you have full coverage - be careful not to put too much on though as we want it to look natural. Don't forget blend to also blend the makeup down on your neck and decolletage so that you don't end up with a different colour face to your neck area, We have all seen this from time to time and it is not a good look!

If you still feel that you have dark circles under or around you eyes apply a little concealer to these areas, but again try not to apply too much - keep it simple. Using a natural slightly darker mineral makeup, lightly apply to the apples of your cheeks and to your eyelids. Finish the skin with a dusting of lucent mineral powder to give your skin that celebrity glow.

Next using a brown or grey eye liner, apply some liner to the outside top of your eyelash line. Start at the outside making it slightly wider and finishing thinner at the middle of your eyelid, before applying mascara lightly to the top and bottom lashes, concentrating on the top outside lashes.

Finish with lining and filling in your lips with a natural coloured lip liner with a pale pink or clear gloss over the top!

Now your ready to take on anything!

The truth is if you want beautiful nails you have to be willing to take time at least once a week to implement the changes set out in our Manicures that Last Guide. I compare it to when people want to lose weight - there is no miracle solution (if there was, people like Oprah would have found it!) No, the truth about losing weight is simple you have to eat less food & move more - e.g.; If energy intake is less than energy expenditure, there will be a decrease in stored energy and you lose weight. (Negative energy balance) The same is true of anything in your life that you want to improve - it does take effort, but the results are well worth it!

We need to do three main things to have beautiful hands & perfectly groomed nails;

  •     Apply hand cream daily for soft, moisturized hands and to help prevent age spots or  premature age-ing later down the track. Remember this is a give away for a lot of women as to their real age. The reason for this is many women forget to cover up or use a sunscreen. If you are a sun lover you will need to use a SPF30+ sunscreen before you venture out under the sun.
  •   Have  a mini manicure at least once a week. Filing our nails weekly is very important as our nails are made up of many layers, by the end of the week  you have lost some of those layers at the very ends of your nails, they have simply worn off from all the work you have done. If you don’t file the ends and just let them keep growing the weakened ends can split or break more easily. Actually weekly filling of your nails will make them eventually grow longer as it takes off the weakened edge and stimulates growth.
  • When using Color polish ALWAYS use a base coat. This is one step you should never miss as it prevents your nail plates from getting stained, particularly when using dark colored polishes. Finish with a top coat to make your Manicure Last Longer.
  • If your nails are very weak and damaged try using a Nail Strengthener such as our butter LONDON - Horsepower Nail Fertilizer - This product is 3 Free, and uses an herbal ingredient called ‘Horsetail’ to strengthen and repair nails. When used properly, the results are really quite staggering! Apply one coat every day for 7 days, then remove and begin again. Use for one month. Horse Power Nail Fertilizer can be used as both a basecoat & topcoat.

Most of you have probably seen the recent news reports about the horror tanning stories regarding the salons that are still using tanning beds in the United States. It seems crazy that people still use them with all the research out there that links skin cancer from tanning. So obviously some people get addicted to tanning their bodies and let's face it even if we haven't used a tanning bed, most of us have had a fake tan at least once in our life for a special occasion.

But what are the dangers of tanning?
The dangers of tanning under the sun or with these tanning beds is so terribly high! I feel very strongly about this as I myself have had a malignant melanoma removed from my back a few years ago. After having it removed & it testing positive to cancer and then having more skin cut away - just to be on the safe side - I was left with a huge 5cm scar. I was given the all clear that they had got it all, which I am thankful for. I never realised just how serious it was though, until my Doctor gave me a wake up call with the words " It's a grade 1 cancer, we are very lucky that we found it in time. If that was left for another year it would have been too late for you Deborah!" I was shocked! "It's just a mole" I thought, isn't that just like having a skin cancer removed? People talk about having skin cancers burnt off all the time?" My Doctor said "No, they are sun spots, this is a different and more serious condition. From now on you will have to keep getting your skin and your daughters skin checked regularly (as it is hereditary) to make sure that if you do get another one, we can remove it as soon as possible"

The reason I am telling you my story is that this happened to me and it could happen to you and the key to surviving it, is early detection as is the case with most cancers. So if you find something change on your skin - get it checked straight away. Don't wait until the next time you need to see your doctor - do it today! You can also decrease your chances of getting this type of cancer by doing the following as suggested by the Cancer Council Australia;

Preventing skin cancer

Protect your skin

For best protection, we recommend a combination of sun protection measures:

  1. Slip on some sun-protective clothing - that covers as much skin as possible
  2. Slop on broad spectrum, water resistant SPF30+ sunscreen. Put it on 20 minutes before you go outdoors and every two hours afterwards. Sunscreen should never be used to extend the time you spend in the sun.
  3. Slap on a hat - that protects your face, head, neck and ears
  4. Seek shade
  5. Slide on some sunglasses - make sure they meet Australian Standards

Extra care should be taken between 10am and 3pm when UV levels reach their peak.

For further information please read our position statements on Eye protection and the Use of SPF30+ sunscreens.

So my advice is try safe tanning - only out of a bottle :)
